An Israeli 'missile' hit Iran. Iran's state media reported an explosion in the central Iranian province of Isfahan.

Ever since Iran's attack on Israeli territory, Iran has been taking extreme precautions for fear of a return attack.

Isfahan is home to a large Iranian air base, a missile manufacturing plant and several nuclear power plants. An Israeli missile hit Iran, according to two senior US government officials.

Iranian state media from Tehran reported the explosion in the central province of Isfahan. One of Iran's major air bases is located here. However, they are somehow dismissing the attack claim.

In video footage obtained by BBC Persian, orange lights flash across Isfahan's night sky. What appears to be the explosion of an anti-aircraft shell.

Israel has not officially commented.

Speaking after a meeting of G7 leaders in Capri, Italy, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken declined to comment on whether the US had prior knowledge of the attack, saying the US was "not involved".

Countries around the world, including the UK, China and Egypt, have urged the warring parties to remain calm.

Tensions between the two regional rivals had been rising throughout the week. The attack on Iran's diplomatic facilities in Syria, which many believe was carried out by Israel, and the unprecedented attack on Israeli soil have fueled those tensions.
